Trafalgar Code of Conduct
 
 

Our School Code of Conduct is based on the premise that we Care About Trafalgar.  C.A.T. has become our acronym.  Within this overall theme the students learn to care "about myself", "about others" and "about this place" leading to our second acronym, MOP.

Umbrella Behaviours

  1. 1.1.•walk only and speak in quiet indoor voices


  2. 2.2.•listen attentively when instructions are given


  3. 3.3.•tidy-up after yourself


  4. 4.4.•use please and thank you


  5. 5.5.•act and speak respectfully to and about teachers and other students


  6. 6.6.•walk along the right-hand side of the hallways and staircases


  7. 7.7.•hold doors for others when entering and leaving the building


  8. 8.8.•deposit litter in containers


  9. 9.9.•respect the property of others and that of the school


  10. 10.10.•ask before using something that does not belong to you


  11. 11.11.•wear appropriate clothing and footwear for indoor and outdoor activities


  12. 12.12.•act safely at all times


Library

  1. 1.1.•use bookmarks to put books back in their place


  2. 2.2.•return borrowed books on time


  3. 3.3.•care for the books you are borrowing, treat them gently


  4. 4.4.•use the library for the purpose it is intended.  Come with work or reading to do.


Lunchroom

  1. 1.1.•food not eaten to be returned home or placed on a sharing table


  2. 2.2.•return your lunch box to the bin provided in the lunch room or gym.  Do not return your lunch boxes to the classroom door


  3. 3.3.•for your safety sit to eat


  4. 4.4.•raise your hand and wait to be dismissed from the lunchroom


  5. 5.5.•place recyclables in the recyclable bins provided and throw all garbage out in the garbage cans provided


  6. 6.6.•speak only loud enough for the persons sitting in front and beside you to hear


  7. 7.7.•be respectful of lunches that may be different from the ones you usually see


  8. 8.8.•food is only eaten in the lunch rooms or outside at the picnic tables on days when permission is given for picnic table use


  9. 9.9.•treat food respectfully


  10. 10.10.•you have good table manners.  Speak only when you have chewed and swallowed your food.


Hallways/Staircases

  1. 1.1.•greet others with a hello and a smile


  2. 2.2.•go around the building when going from one side of the school to the other


  3. 3.3.•use hands to open doors


  4. 4.4.•when the bell rings line up against the wall in front of the classroom so that others can make it through


  5. 5.5.•respect bulletin board displays


  6. 6.6.•allow staff to get by first


  7. 7.7.•go down the stairs one step at a time


Computer Room

  1. 1.1.•when leaving, push your chair in and place the mouse in an upside down position


  2. 2.2.•put discs away


  3. 3.3.•you observe the user contract you signed at the beginning of the school year


  4. 4.4.•no refreshments in computer room


  5. 5.5.•only those students with work to do approved by a teacher and requiring the use of the computer can use the room during computer club time at noon hour


  6. 6.6.•students will line up at the stairs at the entrance to the FI wing at 12:30 p.m. and not before for computer club


  7. 7.7.•end of day classes/teacher shuts down computers


Washrooms

  1. 1.1.•report any problems immediately


  2. 2.2.•flush the toilet after use and wash your hands


  3. 3.3.•use paper towels only for drying your hands and in the quantity needed


  4. 4.4.•use washroom above the stairs at the entrance to the FI wing when needed during recess or the noon hour


Office

  1. 1.1.•you are only in the office if you need to be there


  2. 2.2.•sit on the bench quietly if sent to the office


  3. 3.3.•to see Mrs. Fox, if she is busy, wait a few moments until she is finished what she is doing before asking for help.  Stand so she can see you.  If it is an emergency ask for help right away.


  4. 4.4.•play dates are arranged from home


Boutique Days

  1. 1.1.•get in line for service at the boutique.  Line up around the corner in the direction of the staff room if you are purchasing from the tables in the hallway


  2. 2.2.•no line crashing for friends or family members, no back door orders


Gym

  1. 1.1.•the gym is accessible to students only when there is a staff member to actively supervise


  2. 2.2.•only staff members are allowed in the equipment room


Rainy Days

  1. 1.1.•recess or noon hour will be designated as "rainy" by an announcement over the PA by a supervision aide


  2. 2.2.•inside you can be in the gym if you are an intermediate student, in the computer room if permission from your teacher is granted or in the lunchroom if you are in primary


  3. 3.3.•outside you will need to be under the covered areas in the front or back of the school only


  4. 4.4.•at the Entertainment centre you are expected to:
    - use inside voices
    - sit to play the games
    - take off shoes before playing on play mat
    - use good game manners, no put downs, take your turn, follow the rules of the game, include others in your game
    - put all pieces of the game back in the box and return your game and your mat where it belongs
    - keep game materials on the mat


Assemblies

  1. 1.1.•there is no talking during a presentation


  2. 2.2.•sit legs crossed and hands to yourself


  3. 3.3.•enter quietly in an orderly manner


  4. 4.4.•clap after a performance


  5. 5.5.•project your voice as loudly as you can if you are presenting


Outside

  1. 1.1.•we play safely


  2. 2.2.•eating outside is only permitted at the picnic tables where we sit to eat


  3. 3.3.•do not feed the birds


  4. 4.4.•play on the north, east and west sides of the school only.  See diagram


  5. 5.5.•The present playground structure is used by the primaries at recess and the intermediates at noon-hour


  6. 6.6.•the use of the swings is shared


  7. 7.7.•we slide down the slide and not walk up them


  8. 8.8.•stay visible to the supervision aides


  9. 9.9.•come in immediately at the warning bell


Other

  1. 1.1.•front door reserved for guests only


  2. 2.2.•engineer entrance off limits


  3. 3.3.•staff washrooms off limits to students
